Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion
  • 250 grams mincemeat
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • half teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt
  • 1 cup boiled githeri (cannellini beans, maise or other legumes)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 stock cube
  • 2 tablespoon coriander leaves chopped
  • pot boiling water
  • 3 potatoes cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon Blue Band margarine
  • 2 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add the onions. Saute for 2 minutes and then add the minced meat and garlic. Cook for 6-8 minutes.
  2. Add the tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt and stir. Cover the pan and let cook for 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add the boiled githeri, water and stock cube and let it boil for 15-20 minutes. Sprinkle coriander leaves and set aside.
  4. In a pot of water, add potatoes and salt and boil for 10-12 minutes or until soft. Remove the water and mash the potatoes with margarine and milk.
  5. Pour the nyama githeri mixture into a baking dish and top with the mashed potato. Bake at 200C for 20 minutes.
